Semaglutide

Losing a significant amount of weight is rarely as simple as the old "calories in, calories out" approach. Factors like energy levels, appetite, stress, hormones, and metabolism all play a role in the process.
When diet and exercise aren't enough, semaglutide injections, guided by a medical professional, may provide the support you need to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

What Is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide, known by brand names such as Ozempic®, Wegovy®, and Rybelsus®, is a prescription medication used to manage type 2 diabetes and support long-term weight loss. Available in both injectable and tablet forms, semaglutide mimics the hormone glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), which naturally regulates hunger and blood sugar levels.
By stimulating insulin production when blood sugar levels are elevated, semaglutide helps control glucose levels. Additionally, it slows gastric emptying, keeping food in the stomach longer and promoting a prolonged feeling of fullness, making it an effective aid for weight management.

Can I Take Semaglutide if I Am Not Diabetic?
Although initially developed for managing type 2 diabetes, semaglutide is also effective for non-diabetic individuals seeking weight loss. A 2021 randomized controlled trial showed significant weight loss benefits for overweight and obese adults without diabetes. Additionally, it may help reduce the risk of obesity-related conditions such as heart attack and stroke.

How Do I Use Semaglutide for Weight Loss?
Semaglutide is available in injectable or oral form, with dosages tailored to individual needs and the specific brand. For weight management, adults using Wegovy typically inject 2.4 mg subcutaneously once a week. Dosage adjustments may be made under the supervision of a healthcare provider to ensure optimal results and safety.
What Should I Do if I Forget a Dose of Semaglutide?
If you forget a dose of semaglutide, take it as soon as you remember, unless it’s been more than five days for Ozempic® or more than two days for Wegovy®. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. For Rybelsus®, skip the missed dose and take the next tablet as usual. Avoid doubling up on doses to make up for a missed one. If you find yourself frequently missing doses, switching to the injectable form may help. Always consult your provider for specific instructions.
What Side Effects Can This Medication Cause?
Semaglutide is generally safe and effective for weight loss and type 2 diabetes management. However, it may cause some mild side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, heartburn, constipation, or burping.
In rare cases, more serious side effects may occur and may require medical attention. However, these adverse reactions are typically limited to mild gastrointestinal discomfort.
